Live temperature: I also have Monthly and Yearly graphs. The temperature is just the ambient air temperature. The sensor has an X10 interface, so I could put it anywhere, but it's spent the past year draped over the back of a chair. |

The reported temperature of a disk in the NAS has exceeded maximum recommended temperature. Automatic shutdown on high disk temperature is currently enabled, but the system will not be shutdown until it has been running for over 30 minutes. This will give you time to perform any critical actions before the shutdown takes place. The system has been up for 28 minutes. Disk on channel 3 reports a temperature of 61C / 141F. Fan 1: 2678 RPM I think I might just leave it off for the rest of the night - the fan I have blowing on it doesn't appear to be helping... |

I swear I really do test to have a reading comprehension level of around 98%. It's that other 2% that gets me! I just got my mail and looked down to see "Extremists are taking away our health care coverage", except I read "Feminists are taking away our health care coverage". Before my double-take I thought, 'What the fuck, Triangle Foundation?' |

OMG Freakout! ( So there's a really akwardly-written but well-indended article about me in the Times today... ) I'm journaling again, and night-before-last I thought I'd get caught up on what everyone's been up to this year: Babies Bittersweet Rememberences Books Business Elections Mawwiage Music Pets Skoo Technology Trips Warlords Women Lots of other amazing things happened to some amazing people this year in LJ land, but if I found out about it through friends-only filter or on the phone it most likely didn't get mentioned here. Alright, what else did I miss? |

it figures that on the day that i'm having slight personal issues that my dress for the prom o' doom would arrive. it showed up in an envelope. not one of those cloth-like envelopes, mind you, but a cardboard letter-sized USPS priority envelope. needless to say, i will be busting out the hotpants to curb the ass incident of...well, whenever i show up to the chamber in a skirt. but it is totally punk rock and i love it. |

1) Val, an older man, he trains hard. Hes probably the oldest person training right now. We were discussing some of the asian cultural influences in the art and he told me this story: he was in vietnam, with his platoon walking along a rice field. His groups interpreter was trying to explain to an old man that he should ally himself with the americans. He waved a small american flag in front of the farmer and said "US number one, vietcong number ten", and he gave the flag to the farmer. The Farmer put the flag in his pocket, looked at the soldiers and took a north vietnam flag out of his pocket, held it next to the american flag and said; "Veitcong number one, USA number one," then he held them together and said "both number 10". So the young soldiers, perplexed watch as the old man put both flags back in his pocket. He walked over to his ox, picked up a handfull of rice seed. He held the rice up in front of them and said "rice number one". Val recounts that at this point he realized he shouldnt be in vietnam. 2) Delores, Vals wife, also a hard training new student, asked me about huen sao; a subtle and ubiquitous movement in all ving tsun forms in which the hand circles the wrist. Its a powerful technique because its so small and simple. I demonstrated one use of the movement by having a student punch at me, I used to circling hand motion to both deflect his punch and take an advantageous position. This made sense to her and she started trying it out herself. A few days later she mentioned that in her childhood in arkansas her friends and siblings used to pick cotton and strawberries for a farm. being children they would often leave the working and just play in the fields. She remembers that there was a childs game that she played that was almost identical to the huen sao deflecting a punch, and that the children would both try to huen sao each other in a patty-cake sort of contest. Of course it wasnt the same technique, but probably something very similar. I wonder if the kids came up with it themselves, or was it some remnant of a fighting tradition lost to time? |

this is a time of trials. resolution to a great many critical issues is almost within reach. this has already been such an amazing year. its not half over. the mercedes caught fire a few days ago. seriously burst into flame. I extinguished it. It doesnt want to start anymore. despite all this shit talking I'm unwilling to write it off now. i need to find a new place to live, we've been bought out of the woodbridge house. Likely I'll be back in the market soon. the seminar is getting interesting attention. not much can be expected with the super-event in July, but there will be many visitors. the Kung fu is moving forward now as I had hoped. Everyone developing new levels quickly and lots of young students. by the end of summer things will be very different indeed. |

I know not everyone is into this kind of stuff, but I also know a lot of you are. That's why I'm giving you an option. Just fill out this handy, dandy poll and let me know if you'd like to be on my house and decorating filter. Some of the big stuff like major repairs and simple before & after shots will likely make it into my main entries, but I'm going to try to keep the inspiration, ideas and individual projects apart from that. If you want to see the step-by-step stuff then opt into the filter. If you don't then opt out. I promise I won't be offended either way. Poll #1188292 House Filter Open to: Friends, results viewable to: All Do you want to be on my new house filter? ( What I really want to do to the kitchen if I can convince Eric that green isn't so bad ) |

I do mean "retarded" in the actual sense of the word- slowed, hindered and restricted. Because that's what DRM does. It uses digital technologies to make media retarded. Microsoft has promised that they'll "explore" some sort of content filtering to keep pirated content off the Zune. Never mind that this would be doomed to failure in even the most competent hands, Vista media center can't even decide which shows you're "allowed" to record or not. Man, isn't that a kick in the pants. Which shows you're allowed to record. Remember when you could put a tape in your VCR and record any show you wanted? Isn't it a little weird when the more than 30 year old technology is more useful and feature-rich than the new technology? Digitally Retarded Media sucks. |

So in the continuing Saga. I finally decided to try and talk to Erick. which resulted in me finally going I don't think this is working I need time to think about things. We might as well have been discussing the migrating habits of red ants for all he cared about. Honestly it was like his eyes glazed over. I guess after 4 months I expected a lil more reation. At least something nope. I got an ok. and that was it. He's called twice and I just can't bring myself to answer the phone. I guess because what am I gunna say? He's a tin man. I honestly don't think he cares about anything other then money and maybe basket ball. I really don't even understand why he's bothering to call. I'm a lil tired of the i've had a hard life or I had a bad childhood. Ya know for the people who geniuenly had one I don't see them crying about it or using it as an excuse or a crutch. In fact most often they are proving the odds and managing to do something with their lives and let go of bad stuff. Then there are the people who cling to it like a parasite and start using it as an excuse to act like an asshole. "My mom kicked me out of the house was I was 13, so I can act like a turd and everyone will feel sorry for me." "I was abused so now I can be an abusive dick to everyone who gets in my way." Maybe its just the people who iv'e encountered lately, they have a chip in their shoulder the size of Russia and they believe just because they had it a lil rough that they are owed the world. |

| TAURUS (April 20-May 20): The daytime TV soap opera *The Young and the Restless* has been the most highly-rated show in its time slot for more than a thousand consecutive weeks. First appearing in 1973, the show ascended to the top slot in 1988 and has never slipped since. I'm happy to announce that in 2008 you have the potential to begin a comparable run of success, Taurus. Whether you're able to cash in on that potential may depend on the preparations you make in the coming weeks. |

The first three games of the season have been posted on the website. This year I play for the 25+ Reds-- I declared free agency at the end of last season because I was dissatisfied with the Phillies, and the Reds picked me up a week or so into Fall ball. See the new icon for my new team, same number, same starting position, and new nickname. :) Our first three games are against teams from higher divisions, so it'll be a rough start, but good practice for our division games later. Come out and see us! 5/29, 8:45pm, Manz Field: Brewers at Reds 6/02, 5:45pm, Ford Field: Reds at A's 6/06, 6:00pm, Hazel Park: Reds at Cubs |

Drugs may be bad for you, but the "War" on drugs is worse for you. This story, in particular is tragic. The summary: college hippie sells pot and ecstasy to friends. Gets busted. The cops offer a deal: be an informant, and we'll go easy on you. Girl falls for it. They wire her up and send her to buy way more drugs than ever before, a gun, and other such out-of-character behaviors. A few days later, the police find her body. Reason's blog often runs stories about the "isolated incidents" wherein "drug warrior" thugs break into homes with "no knock warrants", harass, abuse, and sometimes kill the residents, then realize that it was the wrong house. Sadly, Reason can't be arsed to tag their entries, so I can't link to the library of "isolated" incidents that they've collected. |

I was trying to thank you all individually but you guys are overwhelming. So for all of your congradulatory comments I'd like to say, Eric is faxing in the rest of the purchase agreement today. In fact, it's probably already done. Now we just have to wait for the bank and title company to move. I'm hoping we can close next week since we're all ready. Worst case scenario has us closing by the end of the month, but I don't think it'll take that long. Squeee! |

This is supposed to be the last season, right? The show was canceled, yes? Well, yes and no. Instead of tying up, or even really making any sort of climactic progress against the armies of the Ori, this is just another season of Stargate SG-1. They've got just as many retrospective episodes, character history episodes, Jaffa infighting, Baal (GOD! JUST SHUT UP YOU CLONED JERK), the NID, actual Goa'uld implantations, and Tok'ra bailouts as past seasons. What it doesn't have is a conclusion. In fact, it has the opposite of a conclusion. Hell, it didn't have a buildup or climax, so why would it have a conclusion?I enjoyed nearly every episode, on its own. But even if it hadn't been the last season, there would have been a cliffhanger at the end. It feels like I was in the passenger seat of a car that was being driven off a cliff. Because of the strength of the individual episodes, the small amounts of Ori plot advancement that did happen, the twist involving ( SPOILER ), I gave this one four stars. Let's hope that the movie ties up -something- besides a rushed and forced bow-out of the ( SPOILER ). I mean, REALLY. |

I'm feeling quite the urge to aggregate and list the various incarnations of me that exist across the web. I have several home pages, blogs, memberships in rental/rating sites (like Netflix and GoodReads), information networks (better descriptor for Google and MSN/Live?), photo sites, and IM protocols. Home pages are evolving into just such an aggregation, it seems. Since data is strewn across different networks and servers, but is readily available and backed up by those immense and professional services, why duplicate the information on a local server? Why not simply hotlink? That's what the web is, right? It's come full circle, except blue underlined text is replaced with super-mini-logo-icons. You've seen them, you know what I mean. They're up there, next to the URL in your location bar. Only now those itty bitty logos are popping up as identifiers for linking to and from those popular, immense, professional services. I suppose the only reason to duplicate one's data in this scenario would be for backup purposes. Because, really, what will it take to make Google (Picasa, Blogspot), Yahoo! (Flickr), LiveJournal, or the rest unavailable? What would it really take to wipe out the data that's scattered all over the net for each of us? In aggregating these links, are we making it too easy to be tracked onilne? |
